Chicago Facts & Stats

The city of Chicago, Illinois is located where the Chicago River empties into Lake Michigan. Because of its proximity to the great lake, Chicago is often referred to as the “Windy City” because of the brisk wind that often comes in off the lake.

Chicago is one of the biggest cities in the United States, and is filled with astonishing architecture, art, and a rich history. Chicago is also a city of vast ethnic and cultural diversity, with nearly 20 distinct neighborhoods, each with its own identity and appeal, and each contributing to Chicago’s unique cultural mix.

In keeping with a big city, Chicago is also home to an expansive list of college campuses, and educational institutions, providing prospective students with opportunities to earn many different types of degrees. With dozens of schools and campuses located within the city, educational opportunities are available for students looking to study all kinds of things, and Chicago schools provide students with a variety of educational choices.

Chicago Highlights & Attractions

Beyond its many educational opportunities, Chicago is also an internationally recognized cultural center, and is home to an active performing arts scene, as well as world-famous art and historical museums. Chicago is also home to many famous celebrities, the famous 'Magnificent Mile' where you will find some of the country's best shopping, an exciting nightlife, numerous parks, several professional sports teams, including the 2005 World Champion Chicago White Sox, and of course the beautiful shoreline of Lake Michigan.

Chicago has a rich history of notable accomplishments, and a wealth of attractions including the Filed Museum, the home of architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the Chicago Public Library, which in the largest public library in the world, and the Sears Tower, which is the tallest building in the U.S.

With so much to experience, Chicago's cultural, educational, and employment opportunities make it one of the finest cities in the world for students.
